Manga Review - I Love Amy
December 8 2024
so i read 'i love amy' last night because it was one of the best rated gl's on mangadex, and i honestly do not get the hype. for a quick rundown of the plot - there's this girl named bibi, who has a terrible reputation at school because she's weird and really mean (constantly stealing stuff, tripping people, etc). she has a crush on a popular nice boy peter, who she sees talking to a girl named amy in the first chapter. she then befriends amy (only because she wants amy to set her up with peter). they still hang out without peter, but bibi is still incredibly cruel to amy - ruining her friendships, manipulating her, outright bullying her sometimes. oh also i forgot to mention bibi fucking killed her dog. and for some reason, amy is in love with her...? i thought this was going in the direction of psychological horror-romances like killing stalking, so i stuck around in hopes it would actually become good, but they GOT MARRIED IN THE END. and then it was just like, yeah now bibi is nice and stuff and theyre happily ever after. what????????????? this genuinely just pissed me off for about 90% of the comic and i only found it remotely cute in the last few chapters. even then i was annoyed because amy had people around her who loved her and cared for her in healthy ways and they were just forgotten about by the end of the story. suffice to say i do not get the appeal of this.

Thoughts So Far - Skip And Loafer
November 26 2024
okay so i wanna do a little rant thing about this manga so far because i LOVE it!!!!!!! love love love!!!!! its so adorable. every single character is so thoughtfully developed in a way that is *very rare* to find in other romance manga. i find that most romance manga nowadays are either completely unabashedly targeted towards men, or incredibly juvenile. this one is neither! it throws away shit fanservice in favor of actual character development that keeps me soooo invested in the story and the side characters - not just the main pair. im even invested in mitsumi's best-friend-from-home's story (who has only been shown in like 3 chapters btw) if that goes to show how well written this is. every character is just ugh so relatable. the male lead, shima, has this weird people pleaser thing going on and a really warped outlook on love which i personally found quite realistic and relatable too!! theres also mika, mitsumi's rival-turned-bestie who has an incredibly well crafted backstory and i would love to learn more about her. yuzuki is a beautiful american girl who hates all the attention she gets, but found solace in makoto, an introverted nerdy kind of girl, who was initially a bit scared/annoyed(?) by mitsumis friend group because of her own preconcieved stereotypes of popular girls, but slowly opened up and became super close to yuzuki (lesbians???) ok ill stop now, but omg this manga is adorable. pls read it ;p
